Design and functionality
SAMBAS blends timeless simplicity with practical details. The woven water hyacinth body gives the bag a summery, natural appearance all year round. A sewn fabric lining and drawstring closure keep your belongings protected and secure, while two rattan handles ensure comfortable and reliable carrying. The materials are intentionally relatively stiff so the bag retains its shape and carrying capacity over time.
Materials
Main material: water hyacinth — a tropical aquatic plant processed into durable plant fiber. The leaves are removed and the thick stems are sun-dried for three to seven days to create a sustainable raw material ideal for wickerwork. The finished bags have a natural fragrance and tactile feel.
Other materials: polyester (lining), rattan (handles).
Production & social responsibility
This bag is handmade in Java, Indonesia. We select local producers who provide fair pay and safe working conditions. All artisans are adults with experience; no harmful chemicals are used in production. Because each step is done by hand, manufacturing produces very little greenhouse gas emissions. We verify these standards through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with our partner workshops.

As handcrafted items made from natural materials, each SAMBAS bag is an individual piece. Slight variations in size, color and shape may occur due to hand production and natural material differences. To preserve appearance, avoid prolonged exposure to heavy rain and store in a dry place when not in use.
