Materials
Main material: Water hyacinth. These plant fibers retain a natural scent and tactile quality reminiscent of the outdoors. Water hyacinth is a tropical aquatic plant originally from South America and widespread in Southeast Asia. Because it can grow rapidly and cover water surfaces, plants are regularly harvested and processed into a sustainable raw material. Leaves are removed and the thick stems are sun-dried for three to seven days before weaving, yielding an abundant, eco-friendly resource.
Other materials: recycled plastic, nylon thread.
Production & ethics
This basket was handmade in Java, Indonesia. We select local producers committed to fair pay and good working conditions. All manufacturing steps are carried out by adult, experienced artisans without the use of harmful chemicals. Handcrafted production minimizes greenhouse gas emissions.
