The KUARA placemat is handwoven using a meticulous needle weaving technique. Each piece combines robustness with a soft, natural feel, making it ideal for everyday dining or as a decorative accent. The generous 50 x 30 cm dimensions accommodate plates, cutlery and serving pieces with ease.

Because every placemat is handcrafted from natural fibres, slight variations in size, color and shape may occur. These small differences are a sign of authentic craftsmanship and the natural origin of the material.
About the material — Raffia (Corypha utan)
Our placemats are made from plant fibres and retain the scent and tactile qualities of natural materials. Raffia leaves are harvested from the raffia palm in steppe and forest areas of Southeast Asia. The mature leaves are removed approximately every two years, sun-dried for days to weeks depending on the desired coloration, and then processed into woven goods.
Raffia’s relative rarity and the labor-intensive processing make it a premium plant fibre. Although less common in Europe, raffia is widely used across Southeast Asia for daily household items because it is pleasantly soft while remaining resilient.
Production & social responsibility
This placemat is handmade in Java, Indonesia. We work with local producers who provide fair pay and safe working conditions. Only adult, experienced artisans are employed in the workshops from which we source. No harmful chemicals are used during manufacturing. As most steps are done by hand, the production process generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We maintain these standards through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with our partners.
Care instructions
Clean with a dry brush or a slightly damp cloth. Avoid soaking or machine washing to preserve shape and color. Store flat when not in use to prevent deforming.
